The Challenge

Divine Nine fraternities and sororities have deep, historic alumni networks. However, staying connected usually meant relying on fragmented Facebook groups, messy email chains, and outdated Excel spreadsheets.

The founders of Prophytes wanted to build a dedicated, private social network for these organizations. It needed to be highly secure, verify member credentials, and provide a seamless mobile-first experience for networking, event planning, and job sharing.

The Solution

Community platforms require high engagement to survive, which means the UX has to be flawless. I architected and delivered the complete Prophytes platform.

Key Features Delivered

  • Strict Verification Workflow: Built a custom onboarding flow that securely verifies a user's organizational standing before granting access to the private network.
  • Dynamic Member Directory: A powerful, searchable database allowing members to find alumni by location, profession, or graduation year.
  • Event & Ticketing System: Integrated event management allowing chapters to host, promote, and manage RSVPs for local and national gatherings.
  • Algorithmic Activity Feed: A high-performance social feed supporting rich media, threaded discussions, and real-time push notifications.

Engineering

  • Tests: Membership-verification and directory search coverage; RSVP/event edge cases before launch.
  • CI/CD: GitHub Actions for TypeScript typecheck, build, and production deploy.
  • Security: Credential verification before network access, private-by-default membership data, and role gates for chapter admins.
  • Deployment: Production React + MySQL stack. Thousands of exclusive members after launch.

The Make Real Difference

When you hire a cheap dev shop to build a social app, they usually hand you a white-labeled, clunky WordPress or BuddyPress template. It feels cheap, and users abandon it immediately.

Instead, I built Prophytes using a modern, scalable React and TypeScript stack. The UI was custom-designed to feel premium and exclusive, resulting in high retention rates and rapid word-of-mouth growth among alumni chapters.
